Samuel O. Riddle was born in New York in 1891. He was employed as a glass worker for six years after leaving school when he was sixteen years old. He enlisted on September 12, 1915, and his military record indicates he received one SCM for falling out of a road march. He consistently maintained his innocence. In March 1919 the review of his case indicated that his conduct in confinement was “bad.”
