Private Wash Adams was born in Mississippi in 1897. He quit school at the age of seventeen years in the fifth grade. He began working at the age of thirteen years old. He was considered an industrious soldier. Private Adams enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 5, 1916. He was originally sentenced to Life Imprisonment at Hard Labor. His sentence was reduced to 29 years.
